Episode 1 |Wang Zineng on Auctions
The first episode features Wang Zineng, Founder, Art Agenda, S.E.A.. He discusses the auction landscape in Southeast Asia, the rapid rise of the regional art market from the mid-2000s, and how houses keep nimble to cater to increasingly eclectic tastes of collectors.
Episode 2 | Patrick Flores on Biennales
Patrick Flores, Artistic Director of Singapore Biennale 2019, themed ‘Every Step in the Right Direction’, speaks about how biennales can both educate and entertain, the simultaneous importance and difficulty of being critical about art in the region, and the need to expand Southeast Asia as a framework in curating and writing.
Episode 3 | Tom Tandio on Art Fairs
Tom Tandio, Fair Director at Art Jakarta, discusses his journey as an art collector, his interactions with fellow collectors, as well as why he collects installation and performance art. He also talks about IndoArtNow Foundation ten years on, and the importance of documenting the work of Indonesian artists. Lastly, he looks back at what the refreshed Art Jakarta achieved in 2019, and forward to what the next edition will bring.
Episode 4 | Emi Eu on STPI and S.E.A. Focus
Emi Eu, Executive Director of STPI – Creative Workshop & Gallery and Project Director of S.E.A. Focus, talks about her journey with STPI since the early 2000s, and how she has grown together with her team. She also discusses S.E.A. Focus 2020, and its aim to shine a spotlight on the regional art landscape, as well as chat about STPI’s role as part of the Visual Arts Cluster.
Episode 5 | Zaki Jumahri on Art Law
The last episode features Zaki Jumahri, who has worked as Senior Legal Counsel at the National Heritage Board and advised on art law matters relating to museums such as the Singapore Art Museum. He talks about the nascent state of art law in Southeast Asia and the importance of possessing a basic understanding of art law. He goes through the steps artists can take to protect their intellectual property, and how collectors can minimise risks when investing in an artwork.
