Encompassing three decades of work across photography, film and sculpture, ‘Between Two Rivers’ is An-My Lê’s first museum survey exhibition in New York. The exhibition reflects on the cycles of global history and conflict, through the two rivers referenced in its title, the Mekong and Mississippi river deltas. The show features new photographs from An-My’s ongoing series ‘Silent General’ (2015–present), the debut of a site-specific, immersive cyclorama, as well as ‘Somebody Else’s War (Gangbang Girl #26)’ (2016–23), a group of handmade embroideries.

‘Between Two Rivers’ is on view at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA, from 5 November 2023 to 9 March 2024. More information here, and read our interview with An-My Lê here.

‘Resonance’ features the works of American artist Howard Fonda and the indigenous Paiwan artist from Taiwan, Etan Pavavalung. Howard’s vibrant paintings capture his rediscovery of indigenous natural landscapes in North America, while Etan’s compositions are rich in Paiwan motifs and narratives. A theme running through their works is the pursuit of harmony between oneself and the Other.

‘Resonance: Howard Fonda & Etan Pavavalung’ is on view from 6 January to 3 March 2024, at Asia Art Centre in Taipei. More information here, and read our interview with Etan Pavavalung here.

‘Duet’ brings together paintings and sculptures by American artist Nancy Shaver and London-based Singaporean artist Sherman Sam. A playful sensibility runs through their works. Made from painted paper, found furnishings and textiles, Nancy’s constructions transform ordinary objects into unexpected encounters. Sherman’s paintings are a slow unfolding of time, guided by organic gestures rather than a premeditated image in mind.

’Duet’ is on view from 18 January to 29 February 2024, at MAMOTH in London. More information here, and read our Midpoint interview with Sherman Sam here.

‘Green Snake: Women-Centred Ecologies’ connects art with ecological themes. It discusses the relationship between human beings and nature, and focuses on rising temperatures and resultant weather events. The exhibition is inspired by mythological snake figures, including from the Chinese folktale Legend of the White Snake. At their core, the over 60 works are made through the lens of ecofeminism, and imagine alternative futures for the earth. The show is curated by Kathryn Weir and Xue Tan, with assistant curators Tiffany Leung and Pietro Scammacca. For the full list of the 30 artists and collectives taking part in the exhibition, click here.

Tai Kwun Contemporary is showing ‘Green Snake: Women-Centred Ecologies’ from 20 December 2023 to 1 April 2024.
