RESET
RESET is a series of panel discussions that explore individual and collective efforts on current key issues and solutions in the local, regional and international art scenes. Featuring the voices of innovators, this get-together is an opportunity to share knowledge about ways to move synergistically into 2021.
Featuring six talks taking place in December 2020 and January 2021, RESET is organised in partnership with Singapore Art Week 2021 (SAW).
Past Talks
Talk 1 | Better Together: New Ideas and Networks
10 Dec 2020, 5 - 6 pm (GMT+8) via Zoom
The global ban on travel has paradoxically fueled international collaboration as art practitioners find pathways to engage with their peers virtually, and in preparation for the opening up of borders to meet again in person to do more together. We speak with the people who have expanded their networks along novel trajectories to bring refreshing experiences to their local communities.
Talk 2 | Mix & It’s a Match! Cross-Pollinations With Art
17 Dec 2020, 5pm - 6pm (GMT+8) via Zoom
The lines around creative fields are increasingly blurred as individuals seek inspiration and collaboration beyond their immediate circles to music, theatre, dance and writing. In this panel, artists who comfortably occupy overlapping spaces open our minds to the possibilities that come from marrying familiar ideas with unexpected ones to create surprising combinations that work.
Talk 3 |IRL or WWW: Between Physical and Virtual Spaces
7 Jan 2021, Thursday, 5-6 pm (GMT+8) via Zoom
How can an exhibition comfortably inhabit both virtual and physical spaces? What are the subtle differences that both the curator and artist have to pay attention to as they work to ensure prime engagement on not one but two platforms? We get first-hand accounts from SAW project organisers and see if there are best practices that can be instructive for future endeavours.
Talk 4 |Back to Basics: Material Practices in the Digital Age
14 Jan 2021, Thursday, 5-6 pm (GMT+8) via Zoom
As the impetus for digitalisation grows with the increased physical segregation brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a tension between traditional and contemporary approaches, and how they will evolve and co-exist. In this panel, we speak with artists about how they are straddling the two while remaining true to their practices.
Talk 5 |Making Space: Support Systems for a Diverse Art Ecosystem
22 Jan 2021, Friday, 2-3 pm (GMT+8) via Zoom
What are the challenges to sustaining a healthy ecosystem that supports artists at various points in their careers? How do different stakeholders work together to provide opportunities and mentorship to young practitioners? Our panelists speak about the importance of making space for diversity and independent interests.
