Chronicle of the Landscape

‘Chronicle of the Landscape’ is Sakarin Krue-On’s solo exhibition at Warin Lab Contemporary. It displays works inspired by human relationships with the environment, a theme that the gallery is committed to address. Aside from the theme, his landscape photographs also allude to both the eastern and western history of landscape art, from shan shui in China to lantschap in the Netherlands respectively.  The physical exhibition which is on show until 25 June, is complemented with a virtual reality (VR) experience. The immersive VR room takes the viewer beyond the gallery and into the depicted landscape, essentially erasing the line between the real and the fake.

The 2022 Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Prize in the Visual Arts

The Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Prize in the Visual Arts is awarded each year to MIT student for excellence in a body of work in the visual arts. This year, Irmandy Wicaksono, a PhD Candidate in Media Arts and Sciences from Indonesia is one of the three winners. His works consist of smart textiles and wearable technology, such as ‘Tapis Magique’ a carpet that produces sound based on pressure applied and ‘KnittedKeyboard’, a musical interface made out of fabric. He took inspiration from his experience in creating mechatronic dresses for Lady Gaga and Indonesia’s diverse textile heritage. Alongside cash prizes, the winners’ artworks are displayed at the Wiesner Student Art Gallery and online.

Paradise is Lost

Merryn Trevethan and Sebastian Mary Tay’s first collaboration ‘Paradise is Lost’ is available virtually until 9 July. It derives its inspiration from contemporary life that restrains people from exploring the world around them. Through hyper-saturated colour works of cities and mountains, we are taken through the artists' labyrinthian experience, a form of escape from our mundane day-to-day life. Each work also symbolises the existing dualities in life: urban and untamed spaces, utopianism and dystopianism, the technological and the analogue.
