History, Truth, Memory: Trauma in Asian Contemporary Art
This symposium titled ‘History, Truth, Memory: Trauma in Asian Contemporary Art’ at LASALLE College of Arts invites Indonesian artist FX Harsono and art historians Dr Wulan Dirgantoro and Dr Nayun Jang. Moderated by Dr Zehra Jumabhoy, the discussion considers the lasting effects of historical violence preserved in generational trauma and present-day politics of Asia. With a focus on FX Harsono’s work, the dialogue seeks to highlight the importance of recovering narratives from the victims and minorities throughout history.

Collectivism and new forms of curating in the Asia-Pacific
As the third talk in the series ‘The Region: Dialogues on the Power and Precarity of Artist Self-Organisation in the Asia-Pacific’ series by PARA SITE, Hong Kong, ‘Collectivism and New Forms of Curating in the Asia-Pacific’ addresses the contemporary progressions of the region’s curatorial landscape. Curators Zoe Butt (VN), Gridthiya Gaweewong (TH) and Grace Samboh (ID) offer their local perspectives on the rise of artist-run spaces and independent agendas against the dominant backdrop of bureaucratic state institutions in Southeast Asia.

Decolonising Curating and the Museum in Southeast Asia
In a programme by the Asian Civilisations Museum, Singapore, this lecture series brings forth the practical and theoretical challenges of decolonising museums and its practices. With a focus on Southeast Asia, ‘Decolonising Curating and the Museum in Southeast Asia’ will cover topics such as the Western museum standard, the importance of ethnographic research and the displays of ancient Buddhist and Hindu sculptures.

Vargas On Air
‘Vargas On Air’ is a podcast series by UP Vargas Museum interpreting the artworks from the collection donated by Jorge B. Vargas. In the second season, the first episode focuses on the works featured in the ongoing memorabilia exhibition ‘Jorge B. Vargas: Collecting Life’. Interns Ryan Cacho and Sarah Imao analyse a 1944 oil painting by modern painter Fernando Amorsolo.
